OUTPATIENT ULTRASOUND REFERRALS

Advanced abdominal, cardiac and other ultrasound imaging is available by referral to River’s Edge Pet Medical Center.
Our ultrasound service is designed to make the referral process straightforward for both the referring veterinary team and the client.

REPMC Stress Free Referral Process

Step #1: Refer a Patient

Submit a referral request for the pet.

Step #2: Prepare Your Client & Patient

Please provide cost estimates and prep instructions — including fasting, sedation, and transport details — so your client knows what to expect.

Step #3: Ultrasound Appointment

Your patient is admitted, prepped, and the ultrasound is performed. Images are then submitted to a telemedicine specialist for interpretation.

Step #4: Report & Continuation of Care

The completed report is sent to you for review, and you remain responsible for interpreting it in the context of the patient’s care and next steps.

1. REFER A PATIENT

Contact Us First

Call/Text: (541) 704-7479

Please contact our ultrasound team to confirm availability before submitting a referral. Once availability has been confirmed, complete the Ultrasound Referral Form and provide as much relevant clinical information as possible.

Please attach supporting records and imaging whenever available.

2. PREPARE YOUR CLIENT & PATIENT

What Your Client Should Know

Please discuss the following with your client before the ultrasound appointment:

Cost

Ultrasound costs are directly related to the services requested by the referring clinic. If your practice would like an estimated cost prior to referral, please call/text the ultrasound team with the details of the requested study, and we can provide an estimate based on the services being requested.

Patient Preparation:
Provide your client with the appropriate ultrasound preparation instructions, including any required fasting or potential sedation as well as prepare them that their pet will be shaved.

Sedation:
Some patients may require sedation to safely or adequately complete the examination. Please discuss this possibility with the client before the appointment.

Appointment & Transportation:
The client will be responsible for transporting the patient to and from River’s Edge Pet Medical Center unless otherwise arranged.

3. ULTRASOUND APPOINTMENT

Outpatient Ultrasound Process

For outpatient ultrasound referrals, the patient will be received by our REPMC support staff, admitted into our kennels and prepared for the diagnostic imaging.

An examination by a River’s Edge Pet Medical Center veterinarian is NOT routinely required for outpatient ultrasound patients.

An on-site veterinary examination may be necessary if:

● Sedation is required
● Significant medical concerns are identified
● The patient’s condition warrants veterinary assessment

The ultrasound examination will then be performed and the images submitted for interpretation by the appropriate specialist.

4. REPORT & CONTINUATION OF CARE

Your Patient Returns to You

Following the outpatient ultrasound, the patient will be released back to the client for return home.

The completed ultrasound report will be sent out to an available telemedicine company and then once available, it will be emailed to the referring veterinarian for review and follow-up with the client.

The referring veterinarian remains responsible for interpretation of the report in the context of the patient’s overall clinical picture and continuation of care.
